The North Carolina Collection  An incomparable resource for anyone studying North Caroliniana; includes books, pamphlets, maps, broadsides, photographs, newspapers, etc. Sponsor of the great 2 day map conference held at the Wilson Library on the UNC campus in November 2006.

Scott L. H. Madry, Ph.D.  a Cumming Map Society member's highly polished web site. Dr. Madry is one of of our former speakers and is President and founder of Informatics International.

The Outer Banks History Center , a regional archives and research library in Manteo, NC., is administered by the North Carolina State Archives.  WPCMS member KaeLi Spiers is the Curator.  The center hosted the Cumming Map Society in September, 2001 for a tour of the stacks and presentation by historian and antiquarian collector David Stick.

David Rumsey Collection- A wonderful image collection, the utility of which is greatly facilitated by broadband internet connection. Words cannot express the depth of our gratitude to Mr. Rumsey for making so many maps available to us via the internet.

The Washington Map Society   Washington D.C.'s established and wonderful map society. Thrice-yearly journal.  Local meetings and regional field trips.  Annual writing prize.

East Carolina University- Their copy of the 1733 Moseley map of North Carolina is well worth the trip to Greenville, NC to see. It is one of only 3 known copies, the best preserved, and the ONLY one on this side of the Atlantic.

Georgia, Univ. of: -Fantastic collection of high resolution images of maps that span over 400 years with an expected concentration on Georgia and the Southeast - the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library .  Another Georgia map reference with many modern and historical map links can be found courtesy of Ed Jackson by clicking here.

Geography and Map Division, Library of Congress, home of the largest cartographic collection in the world, not to mention the most helpful map librarians!

Historical Map Archive  -- Many fabulous maps contained in the Rucker Agee Map Collection at the Birmingham Public Library are viewable online at this web site. As with the Hargrett Library at the University of Georgia, there are maps of all parts of the world but an expected concentration on the Southeast.

International Map Collectors Society- "IMCoS - is for people who love maps.  There's no other qualification for membership." IMCoS Annual Map Fair is in London in early June and the annual International Symposium travels around the world.

Map History -- maintained by Tony Campbell of the British Library.

MapHist -- MapHist, the Map History Discussion List, is an e-mail discussion group whose primary focus is historical maps, atlases, globes and other cartographic documents. The list is open to all persons interested in the history of cartography and discussion is encouraged on all aspects of this broad subject (description from MapHist web site). This great resource is maintained by Peter van der Krogt.

First Printing: The Antique Maps and Prints Blog, a public blog about antique maps & antique prints, from VintageMaps.com. Presenting news, views, annoucements, and discussions about the world of antique maps and antique prints (description from the Antique Maps and Prints Blog web site).

New York Public Library -- Map Division.

Newberry Library. Maps and History of Cartography Collections. Newberry benefactor and world renowned collector, Roger Baskes, has a combined inventory of atlases from his own collection and the Newberry's collection at this web site.

Odden's Bookmarks -- This large and popular site is perhaps the most prominent of its type on the web. It is editorially controlled by RP Oddens at the Univ. Of Utrecht. If you need to keep your "favorite site" listings brief, this is the one to use.

Web Resouces for Map Collectors -- This is a less expansive list of cartographic links than Odden's, but you'll find just about everything you need here.  A Condensed Digital Travelers Guide is designed with the intent to provide "a general reference source aimed at early collectors". Thanks go to Cumming Map Society member, Joel Kovarsky of The Prime Meridian, for this very helpful guide.

Osher Map Library -- at the University of Southern Maine; outstanding educational web site with superb online cartographic exhibits.

Royal Geographical Society -- This link takes you to the collection and archives pages of the society, the largest of its type in Europe, and one of the largest in the world.

Society for the History of Discoveries  - - worldwide society focusing on discoveries, exploration and the history of cartography.  Annual meetings.  Yearly journal.  Annual Writing Prize.

International Map Collectors Society Journal International Map Collectors Society Journal -- Published quarterly.

MapForum.com -- Previously an online magazine for map enthusiasts with superb collations and checklists in addition to fine articles and classified ad links. Now available in print form via subscription! (Subscription form is a .pdf which requires Adobe Reader. If you don't have Adobe Reader, it is available free here).

The Portolan -- thrice-yearly journal of the Washington Map Society.  Articles of a broad nature on map collecting, cartography and the history of cartography.  Book/CD/map reviews.  Cartobibliography.  News of map events in the Mid-Atlantic region, throughout the US and world.  On-line index and contents listing.

The National Geographic Society has its complete map collection on CD ROM. This is easily searched, and is a comprehensive reference work that should be of broad general use and interest.
