JOHN LAWSON: A CAROLINIAN'S LIFE & TIMES. 

October 9-10, 2009--Commemoration of the 300th anniversary of the publication of John Lawson's A New Voyage to Carolina, to be held at the North Carolina Museum of History in Raleigh.

SOCIETY FOR THE HISTORY OF DISCOVERIES

October 11-13, 2009-- Society for the History of Discoveries Annual Meeting. Join SHD and then join fellow SHD members for a famous Eastern North Carolina style barbecue dinner on Saturday, October 10, at the Capitol.  SHD will hold its 50th annual meeting from October 11-13, 2009 in Raleigh, North Carolina.  The SHD meeting will immediately follow the October 9-10 John Lawson Symposium, and will be held in the same venue, the North Carolina Museum of History. All the schedule information you need for the combined Lawson Symposium and SHD meeting can be found here. (SHD Meeting registration is not yet open, but will be posted on their web site and mailed to members).

 

NOTE: Although the Lawson Symposium and SHD Annual Meeting are conveniently scheduled back-to-back, registration for each event is separate.

 

OLD SALEM SATURDAY SEMINAR: MAPPING THE EARLY SOUTH

October 17.  2009-- MESDA Saturday Seminar in Old Salem.  Registration form and preliminary program are available by clicking here. Speakers will include Margaret Pritchard of Colonial Williamsburg and Henry Taliaferro of Cohen & Taliaferro, LLC. NC Maps Project web site

It is an absolutely marvelous collaborative project between the North Carolina Collection at UNC-Chapel Hill, the State Archives in Raleigh, and the Outer Banks History Center in Manteo.
